THE SUMMER OF LOVE: HIPPIES MEET THE TWEETERS

Johnny Depp & Winona Ryder, although not Hippies they definitely were care freeWith the official start of summer this past Monday. I began to think about a time period known as "The Summer of Love."
The Summer of Love was a social phenomenon that took place during the 1967.
Though people were congregating everywhere... San Francisco was the center of the hippie revolution, a melting pot of music, psychoactive drugs, sexual freedom, creative expression, and politics.
San Francisco attracted a wide range of people of various ages: teenagers, college students, middle-class vacationers and even partying military personnel from bases within driving distance.
When the "Flower Children" returned back to where they were from, they brought back with them new ideas, fashion, alternative lifestyles and free love.
Which leaves me to ask, "could such a cultural and political rebellion take place during our generation?"
Perhaps our revolution will not be as carefree and innocent as what the "Hippies" created. In today's world The Summer of Love would be a marketers dream, a place to hang your logo and promote your brand. However, I do believe we are all experiencing a social phenomenon of our own. We may not be gathering in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco with flowers in our hair, but we are connecting with one another through social media, changing the world one tweet at a time.
