THE SUMMER OF LOVE: HIPPIES MEET THE TWEETERS

Johnny Depp & Winona Ryder, although not Hippies they definitely were care freeWith the official start of summer this past Monday.  I began to think about a time period known as "The Summer of Love."

The Summer of Love was a social phenomenon that took place during the 1967.

Though people were congregating everywhere...  San Francisco was the center of the hippie revolution, a melting pot of music, psychoactive drugs, sexual freedom, creative expression, and politics.

San Francisco attracted a wide range of people of various ages: teenagers, college students, middle-class vacationers and even partying military personnel from bases within driving distance.

When the "Flower Children" returned back to where they were from, they brought back with them new ideas, fashion, alternative lifestyles and free love.

Which leaves me to ask, "could such a cultural and political rebellion take place during our generation?"

Perhaps our revolution will not be as carefree and innocent as what the "Hippies" created.  In today's world The Summer of Love would be a marketers dream, a place to hang your logo and promote your brand.  However, I do believe we are all experiencing  a social phenomenon of our own.  We may not be gathering in Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco with flowers in our hair, but we are connecting with one another through social media, changing the world one tweet at a time.

Tom Munro's photo book turned 2 Madonna's page in good company with Moet & ChandonTom Munro playing with Madonna's hair (photo by Alex Berliner)This past weekend during all of the Oscar madness, Moet & Chandon held a reception in honor of photographer Tom Munro.  The exhibit was held on one of Los Angeles most infamous streets Melrose Place in West Hollywood.

The photos were amazing and if you were viewing them at the soiree...  You were either famous or wishing you were, just to have a self portrait shot by Tom Munro.

Some guest included Madonna, Dustin Hoffman, Justin Timberlake & Buzz Aldrin to name a few.

The exhibition continues through the 13th of March, at 8445 Melrose Place.  Proceeds go to Raising Malawi and M.E.A.K. with the purchase of one of Tom's photo books.

SAMANTHA RONSON HAS BETTE DAVIS EYES

Samantha Ronson performing at The Viper Room with Jalopy 2009

On a dark and stormy night...

FINE, who am I kidding a lil drizzle in LA and everyone goes crazy!  On the corner of Sunset Blvd and Larrabee in a lil joint known as The Viper Room gathered a group of rockers, fashionistas and twitter fans.  For those of you unfamiliar with The Viper Room, it was once owned by actor Johnny Depp and was once a hang-out for Hollywood's hottest young actors, regulars included Jennifer Aniston and Sean Penn.

Lead vocalist and guitarist, Luke Sundquist took the stage with his band Jalopy and performed their songs for an electric audience.  Luke who was once Samantha Ronson's guitarist rocked the crowd and made one special request.  During the middle of Jalopy's set, the lead singer (Luke) requested that Samantha come up on stage with the band and sing a song with them.

Samantha took to the stage in front of a screaming audience and sang a cover of Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes."  It's always fun to see one of your friends be able to perform live and rile up a crowd.  It's even more encouraging to see them continue with a laugh even if they mess up.

Check out a lil snippet recorded from the night.  Apologies for the bumpy part, there was a dancing girl whose motion in her ocean kept flowing my way.
